It all started with a bike ride.
In December 2005, friends Daniela Papi and Greta Arnquist led a cycling trip across Cambodia in order to raise funds for educational projects. Dubbed “The PEPY Ride,” six riders from five countries spent five weeks visiting schools and orphanages and teaching the first PEPY environmental lessons. The team raised enough money to fund the construction of The PEPY Ride School in rural Chanleas Dai, Cambodia.
Seeking to create a sustainable funding model for educational programs and realizing the incredible effect The PEPY Ride had on its participants, a team of PEPY’s first volunteers decided to repeat the model. They offered donors the chance to join an adventure tour, including visiting the projects they were funding. This opportunity not only generated much-needed income and support for development programs in Cambodia but also had life-changing effects on the travelers themselves.
Past PEPY participants have proceeded to undertake graduate work focusing in sustainable development and Cambodian studies, organize other fundraising activities such as the Hurricane Relief Ride in New Orleans, continue to assist The PEPY Ride and other partner organizations, and inspire others to actively participate in the causes they support financially. We feel lucky to have met so many great leaders and passionate people through our tours and look forward to meeting those who are on their way here soon!
PEPY Tours now offers a range of travel options, from cross-Cambodia bike treks to one-week educational trips. If you are interested in our social venture and want to learn more about Cambodia, join us for one of our tours!
